Our day care centres in Luxembourg

After-school care and development of children aged 4 to 12

Features of Rockids day care centres

We provide childcare in our day care centres to children from the age of 4 (compulsory school going age) until the age of 12, when children leave the Luxembourg primary school system.

In our day care centres, your children benefit from daily after-school care, from Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays, from 6.45 a.m. to 6.45 p.m. at the latest, depending on the facility.

During the school holidays there are also themed activity weeks and special outings.

Our day care centres are approved by the government as “Education and Childcare Centres”. You can therefore benefit from the Chèque-Service Accueil (CSA) vouchers – financial aid for the care of your children, which is deducted from the invoice.

Your children thrive in a multicultural and multilingual environment, with French as the main language of instruction.

Our educators offer homework assistance and support for children returning from school. We also offer morning, lunchtime and evening after-school shuttle services.

Development of our day care centres

Our day care centres are private structures equivalent to the public “Maisons-relais” day care centres. They all have professional furniture adapted to the age of the children, play structures and educational material designed to develop motor skills and reinforce school learning.

Playful and inventive spaces allow children to develop socially and form friendships. Come and discover our table football, air hockey, indoor playhouses, video projection room, etc.

Each of our facilities has an outdoor area specifically designed for children aged 4 to 12. The outdoor games and equipment available allow for the development of psychomotricity, imagination through play, experimentation and learning to live together.

Services for the well-being of your children

Homework assistance

We support every child’s success at school by providing homework support. Our childcare facilities for children up to the age of 12 offer children appropriate after-school support in learning their lessons and doing their homework.

School shuttles

Our day care centres provide Rockids or Pédibus shuttles that run between the centre and the schools in the area where they are located.

Depending on the facility, we take the children to school in the morning, pick them up for lunch and/or pick them up at the end of the school day.

Specific education in our homes by age group

Rockids, specific education-action – 4 to 6 years

Children from 3 to 7 years old are in a period of mental construction where:

  • Symbolic play predominates
  • They believe in wonderful and fantastic stories
  • They believe in the animation of objects
  • They are able to invent, create and solve imaginary adventures

With this in mind, the Rockids day care centres offer edutainment activities for this specific age group based on a theme and a fantasy story. These projects are carried out either over one or two months, or over a school holiday period. The aim is to use the stage of development that the child has gone through to enrich its imagination and knowledge through a form of communication, fun and play that touches and speaks to him or her in particular, for example: “The conquest of the seas project”.

This approach is intended to be innovative and geared towards enriching children’s creativity and imagination, providing them with a framework for edutainment activities covering all possible themes.

Rockids, specific education-action – 7 to 9 years

7 to 9 year old children are in transition in their development, between the pre-operative stage and the concrete operative stage. Thus, they are progressively able to:

  • Project themselves into the future, into what they want to do in the future
  • Understand the direct causality of one event on another
  • Understand what is real and exists from what does not
  • Empathise, putting oneself in the place of the other, “pretend”.

Thus, for this age group, the day care centre focuses on specific projects to discover different jobs. The aim is to enrich the child’s culture and scope of possibilities, by relying on its ability to project and identify itself.

The child leaves the world of dreams and wonderful imagination to become more and more anchored to the principles of reality. Identifying with its parents, most of whom are working when the child is at the day care centre, the child projects its future onto jobs they know and to which they are attracted and able to identify with: teacher, guitarist, fireman, astronaut, etc. Thus, the professionals at the day care centre feed the child’s range of identifying figures by offering a discovery of different jobs, starting with that of the parents and leading them to discover other occupations in the vicinity (baker, gamekeeper, etc.) and seeking to help the child discover little-known occupations.

Rockids, specific education-action – 10 to 12 years

The 10 to 12 year old child is at the end of the concrete operative stage. Thus, they are able to:

  • Look to the future, to develop a project by anticipating the different stages
  • Understand causality on a larger scale
  • Understand what is real and possible from what is not
  • Question its environment and its constraints
  • Be emancipated and develop reflections and scenarios rooted in the principles of reality

Thus, for this age group, the day care centre focuses on specific projects related to the creation of a child’s project by the child.

The child is an actor and creator of its own projects. Children are offered the opportunity to participate in the design and support of projects for their unit or for younger children, in order to promote peer education and to value the children for what they bring to each other.

At Rockids, we want to develop the values of community and respect for others in this age group, as well as offer education in citizenship and the rights and duties of each person in order to facilitate their social integration.

Our day care centres therefore organise a Children’s Council from the beginning of the school year, the representatives of which are elected in the living unit of the older children and represent all the children in the day care centre. The educator helps them to express their ideas and consider the ideas of others. The children are able to make proposals to the management and have their voices heard.
