The daily group and individual activities in our day care centres are supervised and adapted to the children’s stage of maturity and in accordance with our principles of positive education.
Offered independently by our education teams, individual activities allow children to develop with confidence and gain independence through caring support.
Group activities help children to become more socially aware and to learn to interact in a group that respects individuals.
The children also enjoy daily outings to the municipal parks, the forest, market, etc.
In day care centres, homework assistance is offered after school during the school year
Each week a thematic cooking activity is proposed to the children so that they can make a recipe themselves, using simple ingredients. They can then enjoy their creation with the other children during the afternoon snack or the main meal.
Specific themes are developed by our educators over 1 to 3 months throughout the year, to allow the children to have exposure to the world and discover their environment.
The thematic activities are adapted to the age of the children: exploration of language or food, discovery of life on the farm or the rhythm of the seasons, exploration of space, etc. The subjects are endless, and the children love it!
For the children who are under our care during the school holidays, our educators prepare a week of fun and relaxation:
Festive days are regularly proposed by our teams trained in early childhood to discover international traditions or more specific to Luxembourg: carnival with the Liischtmessdag, Easter, Halloween, St. Nicholas, Christmas.
Special activities are organised by our staff to celebrate your child’s birthday, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, the “Galette des rois” tradition and the Luxembourg national holiday on 23 June.
Depending on the local environment of each facility, our education teams propose local partnerships with schools, libraries, retirement homes, charities, etc. Your children learn to adapt to environments that are different from their usual surroundings, and discover how to live well together.
Our collaboration with libraries and media libraries allows us to constantly renew the “reading” and “music” areas of the living units offered to your children.
External activities are organised every week, in particular by our day care centres, to encourage the socio-cultural and sporting openness of the children in our establishments: outings to the various Luxembourg museums, swimming pools, climbing, etc.
Rockids sees the multicultural environment of Luxembourg as a real opportunity for the children under our care. It is an additional tool that the children will be able to use in all aspects of their future lives, whether it be from an academic, personal, social integration or simple socio-cultural enrichment point of view.
We are keen to give children this incredible opportunity to learn about other cultures and languages.
We set up reading areas where the children can find books (stories, fairy tales, picture books) in different languages, and we give priority to the family languages of the children. Imitation, projection and reflection games are always available for the children. The teaching teams use their different linguistic resources as a support for spontaneous dialogues adapted to the needs and interests of the children.
This is also reflected in the search for cultural diversity in our educational teams. The child is thus immersed in a multilingual environment on a daily basis thanks to exchanges in French, Luxembourgish, Portuguese, English, German, etc.
The learning of foreign languages is delivered in a playful and accessible way: common polite phrases, individual exchanges with the child during routine daily accompaniments in order to establish a dialogue, morning rhymes or before lunch, pre-nap stories, etc.
French is the main language of instruction in our Rockids crèches and day care centres. English is also emphasised in our Montessori by Rockids crèches with bilingual French/English childcare.
In the crèche, children from 1 to 4 years of age benefit from a multilingual education project specific to each structure. This particularity is reinforced by our membership of the national multilingual education programme. Each child is taught French and Luxembourgish free of charge at a rate of 20 hours per week, paid for by the CSA.
In the 0-2 year old unit, we have chosen to give priority to accompanying the child in Luxembourgish during daily activities, such as nappy changes, naps and mealtimes, in order to establish a personal relationship with the child. In addition to the daily multilingual exchanges, we offer 30 to 45 minute activities in Luxembourgish, such as songs, puppet shows or reading. The choice of these activities is based on a desire to give the children the opportunity to be active players, to encourage exchanges and to arouse their interest in the language.
Routines such as morning rhymes, pre-lunch rhymes, common greetings or the pre-nap story are used for integration and targeted introduction to Luxembourgish in a playful and accessible way in everyday life.
In addition, the integration of family languages is achieved through exchanges between children from different cultures and is encouraged through games and cooperative activities.
We also invite parents who wish to do so to come and read stories in their own language in our crèches and day care centres.
